During her studies at the Music Academy in Basel, mezzo-soprano Sylvia Nopper quickly became a much sought-after interpreter of contemporary music. Many of the more than 150 works she has premiered were written especially for her, among them many works for the stage, which sparked off her enthusiasm for music theatre and contemporary opera. Above all she has a special love for chamber music and all kinds of Lieder, chansons, songs or madrigals.
Sylvia Nopper works together with composers and conductors such as Heinz Holliger, Jürg Wyttenbach, Susanna Mälkki and Pierre Boulez, and has participated in festivals all over the world together with noted orchestras and ensembles like Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Ensemble intercontemporain, Klangforum Wien, Phoenix Basel, Contrechamps or Swiss Chamber Soloists. Numerous radio and CD recordings document her passion to challenge supposed limits of expression and to explore and open up unknown musical realms.
