Koczur, Maciej

Born in Bochnia in 1989. PhD student at the Department of Conducting of the Music Academy in Cracow in the class of Paweł Przytocki.

In 2008–13 he was the conductor of the Archetti Jaworzno City Chamber Orchestra, garnering awards at several international competitions.

During the 2013/14 artistic season he was conductor-in-residence at the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź. He was the youngest participant of the Grzegorz Fitelberg Conducting Competition in 2012. He was shortlisted for assistant musical director of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2014.

During 2014 Warsaw Autumn, he directed, conducted, and narrated the premiere of the stage work Mr. Pebblestone in the World of Sounds. Composed of twelve musical miniatures by Cracow Music Academy students, it enthused the public as well as festival critics. In January 2015, he conducted the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.

For three years, Maciej Koczur has cooperated with Marek Chołoniewski, conducting the ElektroNova and Vibrator Ensemble. He is also a founding member and director of Oktofonia, active in Cracow since 2011. Together with painter Grzegorz Mart, he runs a novel project combining conducting with painting. In 2014 he recived the Polish Culture Foundation’s Little Sceptre award.
