Walentynowicz, Małgorzata

graduated from the piano class of the Music Academy in Gdańsk, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, where she also studied modern music interpretation with Nicolas Hodges.

She has won the 1st Prize at the 37th Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition in Amsterdam and 1st Prize at the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music in Buffalo. Her other accolades include the outstanding interpretation prize at the Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, Gdańsk City Award for young artists, Pomeranian Arts Award, and Storm Award of the Gazeta Wyborcza daily. As a performer, she focuses on modern music, appearing as a soloist, chamber musician, and with orchestra. She often performs multimedia works as well as composes music theatre and performance art.

She has appeared at the leading modern music festivals including Berlin’s Ultraschall, Warsaw Autumn, ISCM World New Music Days, Rainy Days in Luxembourg, Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, Acht Brücken in Cologne, Musica Electronica Nova, Musica Polonica Nova, Klangspuren in Schwaz, TonLagen Hellerau, Spaziomusica in Cagliari, Cairo Contemporary Music Days, Tzlil Meudcan in Tel Aviv.

She has also toured the United States on the invitation of Harvard, Illinois, and Louisville universities. As a soloist, she has appeared with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Iuventus, Polish Radio Orchestra, New Music Orchestra (OMN), Cappella Gedanensis, Loh-Orchester, and Illinois Modern Ensemble. She has premiered works by composers such as Zygmunt Krauze, Zbigniew Bargielski, and Krzysztof Wołek, and has given first Polish performances of works by Misato Mochizuka and Sofia Gubaidulina. Her recordings for Wergo, DUX, Bôłt Records, and Polmic include works by Tadeusz Wielecki, Jagoda Szmytka, Katarzyna Głowicka, and Agnieszka Stulgińska.

She has regularly participated in first performances and concerts with many leading composers including Chaya Czernowin, Carola Bauckholt, Pierre Jodlowski, Michael Beil, Brigitta Muntendorf, Manos Tsangaris, Gordon Kampe, and Johannes Walter.

Her concerts have been broadcast by Polish Radio and leading German stations such as DFL, WDR, MDR, BBR. She performs with chamber ensembles such as Cologne’s Ensemble Garage and Berlin’s LUX:NM.
