Kupczak Sławomir
Active in Wrocław, he studied composition with Jan Wichrowski and computer composition with Stanisław Krupowicz and Cezary Duchnowski at the city’s Music Academy. He participated in international composition courses, and received scholarships from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Friends of Warsaw Autumn Foundation, Ernst von Siemens Foundation, ZAiKS Authors’ Association, and the City of Wrocław. His works have been performed at the leading festivals in Poland (Musica Polonica Nova, Musica Electronica Nova, Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profanum) as well as England, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Ukraine.
Sławomir Kupczak received the 4th Prize at the 53rd UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers in Paris and the 2nd Prize at the Tadeusz Baird Young Composers’ Competition in Warsaw. His works have been performed by the outstanding artists and ensembles such as Agata Zubel, Anna Radziejewska, Andrzej Bauer, Karol Marianowski, Maciej Grzybowski, Gośka Isphording, Silesian String Quartet, Cikada Ensemble, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra, Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej, Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra, Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Silesia and Capella Cracoviensis.
His recent projects include a number of larger forms with the use of electronics: Novellafor computer (2007–09), Fryderyk Chopin. Ciennikosobisty, sound installation (2010), Report for computer and chamber ensemble to words by Paweł Krzaczkowski (2011–12). An important role is played by orchestral works: Penultimafor cello and orchestra (2008), Symphony No. 1 “Capax Dei“ for choir and orchestra (2008–10), Dossier A. Z.for three saxophones and orchestra (2009), Figment for orchestra (2011),Fantazmaty for clarinet and orchestra (2011–12), Hummingbirds for orchestra (2012).
Sławomir Kupczak is a member of the improvised music ensemble Phonos ek Mechanes.
