Straburzyński Maciej
Bass-baritone. After graduating from the Department of Voice of the Paderewski Music Academy in Poznań in the solo singing class of Wojciech Drabowicz, he studied at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam in the class of David WilsonJohnson. In 2012 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis devoted to the opera works of Louis Andriessen at the Department of Polish and Classical Philology at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
He began his music education as a soloist (soprano, later bass) in the Poznań Boys’ Choir of Jerzy Kurczewski. He has worked with Polish and foreign choirs and vocal ensembles, including the Singers of the City of Katowice Camerata Silesia and Cappella Amsterdam conducted by Plácido Domingo, Kent Nagano, Krzysztof Penderecki, Fabio Luisi, Vladimir Jurowski, Christopher Hogwood, Peter Eötvös and Bobby McFerrin.
He was one of the soloists of the Warsaw Chamber Opera, and is a guest soloist of the Opera at the Castle in Szczecin and the Grand Theatre in Poznań. In 2009 he received a scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the 2nd Prize in the Baroque music category at the Ritorna Vincitor competition in Ercolano-Naples.
Currently he is primarily engaged in performing contemporary music: he took part in the first world performances of works by Barbara Kaszuba, Szymon Brzóska, Prasqual, Boudwijn Tarenskeen, Daan Janssens, Lera Auerbach, Gavin Bryars, Pascal Dusapin, Raffaele Grimaldi, Katarzyna Głowicka, Jacob Adler, Anna Korsun, Raphaël Cendo, Michael Ellison and others.
