Baumgart, Agata
Born in 1987, director, set designer, graphic artist, performer. She graduated from the Faculty of Directing at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Academy of Dramatic Arts in Warsaw, and also studied graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 2018 she made her debut with the documentaryLove 404 under the First Documentary programme at the Munk Studio in Warsaw. The film won a prize at the Go Short International Festival in Nijmegen and was qualified for the Academy Awards (2019). It was presented at one of the most important documentary festivals, Hot Docs in Toronto (2019). In 2017 Agata Baumgart directed a television theatre production of The Burning of Joanna after Magdalena Miecznicka under the Teatroteka programme of the Documentary and Feature Film Studio in Warsaw. The Burning of Joanna was shown in competition at the Interpretations Festival of the Art of Directing. She also directed a production of
On the Heights of Despair and Smile of a Stewardess, which won the 2016 Debut Stage Competition organised by Nowy Theatre in Poznań. In 2015 she directed a workshop production of Horror Story Praga at Warsaw’s Powszechny Theatre w Warszawie under the project Praga. Between utopia and disappointment (2015). She designed sets for productions like Great Poland directed by Aleksandra Jakubczak at the Polski Theatre in Poznań (2016), God in the House at the Polski Theatre in Bydgoszcz (2017), It’s So Good We Have Enough by Helmut Kajzar at the Współczesny Theatre in Wrocław (2016), The Witnesses or Our Little Stabilisation by Tadeusz Różewicz at the Współczesny Theatre in Szczecin (2015), The Secret Garden by Agnieszka Jakimiak at the Współczesny Theatre in Wrocław (2014) – all directed by Katarzyna Szyngiera, and Soap Bubble directed by Andrzej Pakuła at the Dramatyczny Theatre in Warsaw (2009).
