Mocanu, Adrian

Born in 1989 in Kyiv, he studied composition at the Piotr Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine with Yuri Ishchenko. He also participated in composition masterclasses with composers such as Beat Furrer, Raphaël Cendo, Philippe Hurel, Peter Ablinger, Francesco Filidei, Johannes Schöllhorn, Caspar Johannes Walter, Clemens Gadenstätter, Martin Schüttler, Helena Tulve, João Pedro Oliveira, Mauricio Sotelo, and Jaime Reis. In 2017 he won the 38th Young Composer Competition – Frederic Mompou International Award in Barcelona. In 2018 he was one of the finalists of the Latino Voices project by the US-based ensemble Anima Vox Duo. One year later he received the Gaude Polonia scholarship from Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, enabling him to attend the classes of Paweł Łukaszewski at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. Mocanu’s compositions have been performed by ensembles like Armonia Ludus Orchestra, Ensemble Nostri Temporis, Sed Contra Ensemble, Ricochet New Music Ensemble, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Gallery of Actual Music Ensemble, Ensemble Sounds Ways, MolOt-Ensemble, Festino Chamber Choir, Barcelona Modern Ensemble, MotoContrario Ensemble, Anima Vox Duo, and Ensemble 212 as well as soloists such as Ricardo Descalzo, Natalia Pschenitschnikova, Yuri Matsuzaka, and Rupert Bergmann. His works have been presented in Lviv, Kyiv, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Narva, Barcelona, San Sebastián, Lisbon, Trento, San Giustino, Cholula, São João del Rei, and in the United States (New York, Greensboro and Fort Worth).
