Owczynnikow, Łukasz

Bassist, born in Warsaw, he graduated from the class of Piotr Czerwiński and Tadeusz Górny at the Music Academy in Łódź as well as that of Adam Cegielski at the Postgraduate Jazz Studio in Warsaw. He has performed as a soloist with Warsaw Philharmonic during the Warsaw Autumn Festival and the Witold Lutosławski Chain Festival, with the Polish Radio Orchestra, and de ereprijs at the Gaudeamus Music Week in Utrecht.

Łukasz Owczynnikow has composed and performed contemporary and jazz music since his earliest years. He led his own contemporary and improvised music ensemble known as jegokoledzy; he staged solo performances. He collaborates with dancers and theatres, including the Gardzienice Academy of Theatrical Practice, the Furu and Łódź in Movement groups, as well as Warszawiaki. He has performed with Hashtag Ensemble and Chain Ensemble, as well as with Karolina Cicha (on the album Gajcy for the Warsaw Uprising Museum and on the project to cannibals based on texts by Tadeusz Różewicz). He plays, arranges, and records music with ensembles representing di erent genres, such as the Warsaw Sentimental Orchestra, Czessband, Cała Praga Śpiewa, and Sharena. With Czessband musicians he collaborates on a project of singing and music-making with the elderly (All the Praga District Sings with Us) as well as on workshops for amateur musicians held as part of the Staynia project of the Music Is for Everyone Foundation. He has also performed with the Polish- Ukrainian jazz quintet futurEthno and with musicians interpreting traditional folk music of the Mazovia and Radom regions, such as Bartosz Niedźwiecki and the Bursa Band.

He has premiered and recorded many new works by composers such as Tadeusz Wielecki, Krzysztof Penderecki, Bronisław Kazimierz Przybylski, Marcin Stańczyk, Bartosz Kowalski-Banasewicz, Tomasz Opałka, Andrzej Kwieciński, Ignacy Zalewski, Mateusz Dębski, Paweł Zalewski, and many others. He has also created live music for silent films and music for theatrical spectacles.
