The starting point for this composition was a commission from its future performers. is creates a network of mutual relations between performers, the composer and the emerging new work, which is both external and internal to the music work itself. The situation of writing for specific performers has much wider consequences than just collaboration on details of performance. The first contact is established already on the level of music material. The living (animate) performer animates (breathes life) into the inanimate instrument. The (animate) composer creates an (inanimate) piece of music, which comes to life as a result of the performer's intervention, thus completing the circle of dependencies. is idea is strongly rooted in the Gestalt theory and psychology, whose concepts have been used to organise sound stimuli in this work on the basis of perception models characteristic of human cognitive mechanisms.
This is a work for a small group of soloistically treated instruments, which calls for nontraditional elements of performance, both with respect to technique and to supplementing the performing forces with additional sources of sound. The piece consists of many precisely planned episodes. The music escapes traditional genre definitions, but it fits into the broadly conceived category of chamber music in postmodernist style. Approximate duration: 13 minutes.
