Topolski (Arszyn), Krzysztof

Percussionist, electroacoustic improviser, author of sound art projects, curator. The key notions for his work are noise, soundscape, and groove. He explores percussion music, live electronics, improvised and electroacoustic music. He composes computer music, creates sound installations and eld recordings. He organises presentations, workshops, and lectures on modern music, acoustic environmentalism, and sound art. He was the curator of the 2014 Soundplay festival and the Dźwiękowiska (Soundplay) cycle at the Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdańsk. He has founded the Arszyn / Duda project with sax player Tomasz Duda and the Wolność (Freedom) group with Adam Witkowski and Wojciech Juchniewicz.

He has published his music under labels such as Sangoplasmo, Post_Post, Nefryt, Monotype, Audiotong, Sqrt, Lado ABC, Plg, Konkretourist, and Pawlacz Perski.

In 2009, with Mariusz Waras he created the installation Factory at the Sounds of Time Centre for Contemporary Art in Toruń, and presented his work Folk Science within the Pandemonium project at New York's AC Institute (Direct Chapel).

In 2012-13 he ran the educational project Museum of Sounds at the National Museum in Cracow, the Baltic Sounds Good workshop within the Art Line project, the interactive sound installation Arszyn.Emigrant.GPS at Gdynia's Emigration Museum, and Perspektiven/Perspektywy, a reinterpretation of works from the Polish Radio Experimental Studio in Warsaw and the WDR Electronic Music Studio in Cologne, presented in Düsseldorf, Dortmund, and Cologne.

In 2015, he participated in the Gardens exhibition at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, and in the Soundplay residency at the Skalar Center for Sound Art and Experimental Music w Seyðisfjörður, Iceland. He has run workshops at the Children's Art Biennale in Poznań and within the project Ear in the Water on Gdańsk's Sobieszewo Island.

He has also worked at the EMS electroacoustic music studio in Stockholm (2013), and has participated in many festivals including Sound Sanatorium, Narracje, CoCArt, Unsound, Line_in : Line_out, Wien Modern, Stimul, Echo uxx, and Jazz and Experimental Music from Poland.

He has played the percussion in ensembles such as Kobiety, Night Come, Red Rooster and was, with M.bunio.S, the founder of the Ludzie group.
