Djordjević, Milica

Born in 1984 in Belgrade, she graduated in composition from the city's Faculty of Music, where she also finished studies in sound engineering and electronic music. She also completed postgraduate studies in composition at the Conservatoire National de Région de Strasbourg in the class of Ivan Fedele (2007-9), graduating with honours. In 2009-10 she attended the composition and computer music course at IRCAM, followed by studies with Hanspeter Kyburz at the Hanns Eisler High School of Music in Berlin. She lives and works in Berlin.

She has attended various masterclasses, courses and festivals, including the YoungArtistFestival in Germany (2003), International Bartók Seminar and Festival in Hungary (2004), Prague-Vienna-Budapest International Summer Academy (2005), International Young Composers Meeting and International Gaudeamus Music Week (2006), Acanthes (2007, 2009 and 2010), Workshop for Contemporary String Quartet Music in Blonay (2008), International Review of Composers in Belgrade (2006, 2008, 2010), KoMA' in Belgrade (2004, 2005, 2006, 2010), Summers Courses for New Music in Darmstadt (2008), Ars Musica in Brussels (2009), Impuls Academy in Graz (2011), Tzlil Meudcan Festival in Tel Aviv (2011), Akademie für Neue Musik in Munich (2012). Since 2011 she has been a member of the Knowledge Committee of Serbia and the Klangnetz Association in Berlin.

She has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships including the Ernst von Siemens Composers' Prize (2016), Belmont Prize for Contemporary Music of the Forberg-Schneider Foundation (2015), Staubach Fellowship (2016), Berlin-Rheinsberger Composition Prize (2013), Munich Chamber Orchestra's Musica Femina (2014), Lucerne Festival composition competition (2013), Nikola Tesla Award (2012), 3rd Prize at Young Composers' Meeting in Apeldoorn (2006), City of Strasbourg Award (2008), finalist of the Staubach Prize in Darmstadt (2008), Alfred Toepfer Scholarship, young talent scholarship from the Serbian government (2008), and was selected for the ISCM World New Music Days in 2011. She has worked with ensembles and performers such as the Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Musikfabrik, ensemble recherche, BR Symphony Orchestra, Münchener Kammerochester, J.A.C.K. Quartet, Neue Vocalsolisten, ensemble Alternance, Ensemble L'arsenale, Teodoro Anzellotti, Alexander Liebreich, Peter Rundel, Luca Pfaff, Jean Deroyer, Sylvio Gualda, Cerys Jones, Orchestre National de Lorraine. Her first monographic CD was published by WERGO within the German Music Council's Edition Zeitgenössische Musik. Her music has been performed and broadcast throughout Europe, USA and Asia.
