50 Years of Warsaw Autumns
multimedia DVD
Published by Warsaw Autumn, Warsaw 2007
50 Years of Warsaw Autumns is a multimedia DVD publication showing the history of the Warsaw Autumn Festival in a synthetic and attractive form. It is designed to educate and entertain, drawing the reader into a multimedia play.
The DVD tells the story of the Festival's origins in the 1950s, the subsequent editions of the Festival, and presents the characters of those who made it happen. Interviews with Włodzimierz Kotoński, Zygmunt Krauze, Krzysztof Meyer, Olgierd Pisarenko and the current Festival director Tadeusz Wielecki (all newly made for this publication) are juxtaposed with archival footage. The DVD also features information about the leading composers and performers who appeared at Warsaw Autumn, as well as a very subjective panorama of new music trends written by the young music critic Jan Topolski.
The publication also includes a comprehensive fully illustrated calendar, concert programmes, posters and other documents showing the history, tradition, reception and resonance of the Festival. It also features 200 photographs from the archives of the Polish Composers' Union, radio and TV broadcasts, excerpts of historical recordings and Warsaw Autumn coverage, interviews with composers, performers and organisers, as well as insight into the Festival's backstage life: sessions of the Repertoire Commission, political pressure on the programme, anecdotes and scandals.
All materials are bilingual (Polish - English).
Available through the Warsaw Autumn Festival Office.
