Lasy deszczowe. Koncert na dwa flety i orkiestrę / Rain Forest. Concert for two flutes and orchestra

Eternal, inscrutable, with their “polytime” of fauna and flora, their mysterious audio–and chromosphere... It is a symbolic wander through dark opalising colours of brushwood, a glowing kaleidoscope of colours all the way up to sun-lit, moving canopies.

The work’s form is modelled after ancient tragedy:

Stasimon: before dawn, neutral time

Epeisodion 1: morning, accelerated time (hummingbirds)

Epeisodion 2: before noon, time slowed down (river)

Kommos: afternoon, layered, restrained time

Exodus: twilight, open, suspended time

The composition is a symbolic homage to centenary trees, monuments of nature that can be abolished in a few minutes with tools of civilisation. The score’s motto is: “...thinking about my world that is vanishing...”

The work is dedicated to eminent young Polish flutists, Agata and Łukasz Długosz.

It was composed on a commission from the Institute of Music and Dance, “Collection” programme, “2012–13 Compositional commissions” priority. Duration: ca. 30’
