Piszek, Maciej

Polish pianist from Warsaw, born in 1985. In 2008 he graduated with honours from the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw where he studied with Bronisława Kawalla (piano), Maciej Paderewski (chamber music), and Szabolcs Esztényi (improvisation). He has participated in masterclasses led by Sequeira Costa, Dominique Merlet, Vera Gornostaeva, and Lee Kum-Sing. He also pursues postgraduate studies with Andrzej Jasiński at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.

His awards include the 1st Prize at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Piano Competition in Piotrków (2000), 1st Prize at the International Piano Competition in Marathon, Greece (2003), and 1st Prize at the Ischia Piano Competition (2013). In 2005, he participated in the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. He has performed at numerous music festivals, including Chain, Laboratory, Paweł Szymański Festival of Creativity, Crossdrumming, From Chopin to Górecki, Lutosławski Forum, Music on the Heights, and Trzy-Czte-Ry. He has also performed with several symphony orchestras including Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Kalisz Philharmonic under distinguished conductors including Bassem Akiki, Łukasz Borowicz, Szymon Bywalec, Piotr Dąbrowski, Przemysław Fiugajski, Szymon Kawalla, Jan Krenz, Wojciech Michniewski, Ruben Silva, and Monika Wolińska. He has also cooperated with leading musicians including Paweł Mykietyn, Maciej Grzybowski, Olga Pasichnyk, Jacek Laszczkowski, Anna Karasińska, Stanisław Skoczyński, DAFÔ Quartet, and the chamber ensembles of Warsaw Chamber Opera and Warsaw National Opera. His 2009 recital at the Chopin monument at Łazienki Royal Park in Warsaw was used in the film Ting Ting Discovers Poland, promoting Poland at the 2012 Expo in Shanghai.

He has received numerous scholarships and distinctions from the Polish Minister of Culture and Art Foundation as well as the Dongsan Research Foundation.
