Stokłosa, Maria
Choreographer and dancer, she graduated from the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam (2007) and the London Contemporary Dance School (2001). She has authored shows such as Wylinka (Ecdysis), MaMa Perform, Intercontinental, Right Hemisphere, Vacuum, and Fall in D, presented in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Russia, and the United States. In 2006–8 she danced in Jeremy Wade’s dance company. She has also appeared in productions by Maija Reeta Raumanni, Sarah Shelton Mann, Min Tanaka, Dick Wong, and Aitana Cordero. She is a promoter of experimental choreography and head of Burdąg Foundation. In 2013, together with a group of over a dozen choreographers, she launched the Centre in Motion collective and venue for experimental choreography in Warsaw. As an educator she cofounded the Laboratory of Improvisation and developed an original educational programme known as New Dance Lab. She was also the artistic supervisor of projects for young choreographers including A Few Steps to Lutosławski (organised by the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw) and Choreo-Lab Warsaw–Zurich (organised by the Zurich Tanzhaus and Burdąg Foundation / Centre in Motion). She is a member of the Advancing Performing Arts Project, an international choreographers’ network. Since 2014 she has headed the Programme Board of the Institute of Music and Dance.
