Berweck, Sebastian

With over 200 premieres to his name, Sebastian Berweck is one of the most sought-after pianists performing experimental contemporary music. He has appeared at festivals such as Salzburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Ultraschall, Maerzmusik, Inventionen, Huddersfield, Heidelberg Spring, PGNM festival Bremen, Piano+ in Karlsruhe, Klangwerkstatt Berlin, Klangwerktage Hamburg, Nous Sons in Barcelona, Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, and several editions of ISCM World New Music Days. He has recorded for the Deutschlandradio Berlin, Deutschlandfunk, Swiss Radio DRS, WFMT Chicago, Hessian Radio Network, Radio Bremen, and Southwest German Radio, as well as record labels such as Wergo, Mode, durian, World Edition, CRI, Nochords, and Naivsuper, and has contributed to the inaugural release of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music label.

As a specialist in piano playing and live electronics, he is a frequent guest at electronic studios such as CNMAT, CCRMA, ICEM, ZKM, and others. His project DSP 63.0 is an ongoing collaboration between electronic music studios throughout Europe. Sebastian Berweck has been a regular guest in the United States since 1998. He has given lectures at Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, SU San Francisco, SUNY Buffalo, and other universities. He is frequently invited to talk about new music notation and interpreting new music.

From 2008 to 2012, with the support of the DAAD, he conducted research at the Centre for Research in New Music (CeReNeM) at the University of Huddersfield. His dissertation on the challenges faced by performers of electroacoustic music was published in 2013. Sebastian Berweck resides in Berlin.
