Hellqvist, Karin

Swedish violinist, performing internationally as an interpreter of contemporary music. With a profound engagement in the music of today she is a sought-after soloist as well as a dedicated chamber musician.

Her performances have been broadcast in many countries and she has contributed to award-winning recordings. She studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Universität der Künste in Berlin, the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, and at the Royal College of Music in London from where she graduated with an Artist Diploma in Performance in 2011.

She is a member of several leading ensembles for new music in Scandinavia: Cikada, Oslo Sinfonietta, neon, and Curious Chamber Players. She also commissions and performs new works as well as champions the established contemporary repertoire. Recent collaborations with eminent European composers resulted in a family of solo works exploring the violin in the company of various electronics and sound objects, meeting audiences at major festivals throughout Europe.

Regularly invited to renowned international scenes for contemporary music, she recently performed at Huddersfield, Ultima Oslo, Venice Biennale, Milano Musica, Berlin Philharmonic, Ultraschall, Pan Music Festival Seoul, Harvard University, and the Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt.
