LUTOSŁAWSKI ORCHESTRA MODERNA

was founded in 2013 on the initiative of its current director, Błażej Wincenty Kozłowski. Its basic permanent line-up is that of a chamber ensemble, but it can be extended to suit current needs. The Orchestra was formed to answer the demand for a large ensemble specialising in contemporary music. As an independent student initiative, it has received the full support of the authorities and the faculty of Cracow’s Music Academy. Its members are talented and ambitious students of the Instrumental Department interested in new music. Lutosławski Orchestra Moderna cooperates on a regular basis with the Composition Students’ Academic Club, giving the first performances of students’ compositions, including their graduation works. For its artistic image, the Orchestra draws on the work and figure of Witold Lutosławski, whose name it has adopted. The Orchestra’s repertoire consists, apart from the latest works of the Academy’s students, also of music by well-known composers. The Orchestra has taken part in major educational projects such as Jeux vénitiensWitold Lutosławski in Memoriam (December 2013), a concert within the Elementi II: Space and Time National Undergraduate and Graduate Research Conference (February 2014), and the composition students’ diploma concert (April 2014). The Orchestra has premiered works by Josué W. Amador, Franciszek Araszkiewicz, Peter Javorka, Martyna Kosecka, Kamil Kruk, Dawid Kusz, Szymon Stanisław Strzelec, Çınar Timur, and others. Apart from working closely with instrumentalists and composers, the Orchestra also collaborates with Music Theory Students’ Academic Club, thus combining in its activity the three most important elements of music: composition, performance, and reflection.
