Born in 1960 in Schlema, Germany, residing in the vicinity of Leipzig; composer, sound artist, and sound object constructor. His installations combine sound and music with elements of graphic arts; they are based on humorous distortion of everyday reality. He invents new instruments, creates permanent installations in public space, and constructs spaces—spatial audio dramas in which entertainment devices become sound objects. Some of these are presented in museums, others in public spaces.
In 2002, he founded Gruppe Atonor, an ensemble of young musicians who play both instruments and objets trouvés. Erwin Stache has gave concerts, presented installations, and performances at many major festivals such as the Donaueschinger Musiktage and New Chamber Music Festival in Witten. He has been an artist-in-residence in various countries, including in Asia and Africa.
