Hodkinson, Juliana

Juliana Hodkinson’s work ranges from chamber music and intimate semistaged object pieces to large-scale electroacoustic orchestral works, and often involves visual or theatrical elements. She has also created installations, and electronic performances embracing field recordings, samples, voice, text, and foley. This set of interests has led her to develop collaborative interdisciplinary practices that embrace both ad-hoc freelance and established institutional frameworks.
Repeated collaborations with groups such as the Danish group Scenatet (formerly Ensemble 2000), the Australian arts collective Aphids, and Kammerensemble Neue Musik from Berlin, have enabled her to evolve a working practice based on the rehearsal processes of chamber music, yet with a flow of multidisciplinary experimentation linking creative development, composition and performance.
She has received commissions from Konzerthaus Berlin, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Interfilm Festival, Chamber Made Opera, Den Anden Opera, Operanord, Spor Festival, Berliner Festspiele, Südwestdeutsche Rundfunk, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Mons, and several ensembles such as Scenatet, Zinc & Copper Works, Lydenskab and Kammerensemble Neue Musik. She has held residencies in Japan (Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation), and Belgium (Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes), with Odense Symphony Orchestra, and in April 2014, she was guest resident at the Bogazici University, Istanbul.
