Woźny Joanna

Born in 1973 in Zabrze. In 1992–98 she studied philosophy at the Silesian University in Katowice, and in 1996–2003 composition in the class of Beat Furrer and Gerd Kuhr at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz (diploma with distinction in 2003). She continued to study composition under the direction of Younghi Pagh-Paan and Georg Friedrich Haas. She was awarded the Stefan Batory Foundation scholarship (1997), the Music Prize of the City of Graz (2001), Austrian state scholarship for composers (2005/08), Erste Bank Composition Prize (2010), Austrian SKE Foundation Award (2010) as well as the foreign scholarship of Styria (2011). As composer-in-residence she participated in artists’ gatherings at the St. Lambrecht monastery in Austria (2003 and 2004). She has also received invitations from Kunststation St. Peter to Cologne (2011), and the PHACE ensemble (2010/11). She has received commissions notably from Warsaw Autumn, Musica Polonica Nova, Klangspuren in Schwaz, Musikprotokoll in Graz, Wien Modern and Ultraschall in Berlin. She collaborates with a number of contemporary music ensembles, including Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Wiener Collage, artresonanz-trio, Ensemble Mosaik, Ensemble PHACE, ensemble zeitfluss, Ensemble Platypus, Ensemble PercussioNova and others.
