Ukiyo (Lidia Zielińska)
A Japanese title may hide Japanese inspirations. What is my Ukiyo “about”? Certainly it is not a hedonistic observation of the passing world. Perhaps it is a reflection on ma emptiness, full of after-images, both acoustic (after-hearings) and those based on bits of memories (after-thoughts?). On this occasion, I have also attempted to sonically or even musically grasp the “aestheticism of the kimono” – those incomprehensible criteria of matching fabrics, patterns, colours, shine depths, the subtle symbolism, as well as the rules of matching them according to mysterious proportions rather than those of visual perspective.
