Wolke und Mond (Adriana Hölszky)
(Cloud and moon)
This work, written for Julius Berger and Stefan Hussong, is based on the fourline verse by a Chinese Zen master:
Cloud and moon, both the same.
Valleys and mountains, each different.
Is it unity or duality?
Marvellous! Wonderful!
This describes that puzzling state of unity of different levels, which can be comprehended only by a leap, by overcoming. Only in this way can one understand the meaning of this unity.
The intention of this composition is to create a shimmering, vibrating, pulsating complex sound, the components of which interpenetrate and melt into a whole. For this reason the work is dominated by trills and figures made up of repeated sounds, which intensify the impression of maximum mobility. “Unity” is understood here as “non-duality”. It arises as a result of the composition process and is not given a priori.
