Saunier Johanne
singer, dancer. She danced from 1986 till 1998 in the ROSAS Company, directed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. In 1998, she created Joji Inc. with Jim Clayburgh; this scenographic/choreographic partnership led to many performances. In 2000, she won the Prix Bagnolet in choreography for her trio Final Scene. Erase-E(X)was a suite of collaborations with various guest artists: The Wooster Group from New York, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Georges Aperghis for a vocal composition and a video performance by Kurt d’Haeseleer. IMagined (2007) is a collaboration with the textile designer Anke Loh, exploring the Lumalive technology created by Philips. Musée en chantier 2010 (voice movement) is based on Les récitations by Aperghis.
Johanne Saunier also performs in contemporary operas such as Le conte d’hiver by Philippe Boesmans and Luc Bondy, Bloet Wollef Duivel by Walter Hus and Guy Cassiers, Paysage sous surveillance, Avis de tempêteand Machinations by Georges Aperghis, A King, Lear with composer François Sarhan with the Quatuor Diotima, and Line of Oblivion with the composer Arturo Fuentes based on a text by Carlos Fuentes. Her opera choreographies include Lolita directed by Jim Clayburgh with music by Joshua Fineberg (2008), Machinations by Georges Aperghis directed by the VOCALLAB, Carmenand L’Incoronazione di Poppeafor the Opéra de Lille and La Traviatawith Nathalie Dessay, directed by Jean François Sivadier in Aix-en-Provence. Her latest projects include Luna Park composed and staged by Georges Aperghis and Modern Dancein collaboration with Mathurin Bolze.
