VOCAALLAB

makes productions at the intersection of music and theater, resulting in new forms of music theatre. VOCAALLAB walks on alleys and side streets, dares to fall, and aims for an exciting symbiosis between often unexpected disciplines. From Renaissance to hiphop, from Baroque to the contemporary avant garde and rock, nothing is impossible!
VOCAALLAB stands for innovative music theatre of high quality for a large and diverse audience. Within a period of ten years VOCAALLAB constructed a group of allround performers from all over the world. Singers who dare to go further than their voice: beyond the voice.
Highlights were presentations of Machinations by Georges Aperghis during the Operadagen Rotterdam, and Autland by Sergei Nevsky in the Bochum Ruhrtriennale. In June 2010 VOCAALLAB performed A Dog’s Heart (after M. Bulgakov’s novel) by Alexander Raskatov with De Nederlandse Opera. During Holland Festival 2011 VOCAALLAB brought with Asko | Schönberg the chamber opera The Cricket Recoversby Richard Ayres, directed by Pierre Audi. The 2011/2012 season will see VOCAALLAB performing, among other productions, MonteverdISH – a hiphop breakdance opera with breakdance group ISH; and – in coproduction with LOD Ghent – Les Aveugles.
