Dutch mezzo-soprano, she graduated in musicology from the University of Utrecht. She was trained as a singer with Margreet Honig at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam.
She is the alto in Quink, a vocal quintet of international repute.
As a soloist, Elsbeth Gerritsen has performed with renowned ensembles such as Asko | Schönberg Ensemble, Camerata Trajectina, Combattimento Consort, Ensemble Klangart Berlin, Ensemble Modern and VocaalLAB.
She has taken part in the world premieres of Bart Visman’s
De Roep van de Kinkhoorn (Dienstertje) with Opera Trionfo, Guy Harries’
Two Caravans (Yola) with Kameroperahuis Zwolle, Maria de Alvear ’s
Colorful Penis (Aurore Noire) in Dresdner Tage für Zeitgenössische Musik, and Sergei Nevsky’s
Autland (Greta) in the Ruhrtriennale. Elsbeth Gerritsen has also sung Klytaimnestra in the first performance of Xenakis’
Oresteia with insertions by the Flemish composer Annelies Van Parys with VocaalLAB en Muziektheater Transparant in Antwerp.
Upcoming engagements include the 17th-century opera
De Triomferende Min by Carolus Hacquart with Camerata Trajectina,
Lijfmotetten (a staged production of Bach’s motets) with VOCAALLAB, Mrs. Noye in
Noye’s Fludde by Britten, and Nel in a new music theatre production
