Frenkel Noa
After graduating cum laude from the Rubin Academy of music at the Tel Aviv University, the Israeli contralto Noa Frenkel continued her vocal studies at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. Her opera debut was in Mozart’s The Magic Flute conducted by Kenneth Montgomery. Other invitations followed including A. Shapira’s Kastner Trial in Tel Aviv, Phillip Glass’ Achnaton in Rotterdam and Luigi Nono’s Prometeo at Milan’s La Scala, Festival d’Automne in Paris, Lucerne Festival, and the Berlin Philharmonic with the Ensemble Modern of Frankfurt. She is also an admired interpreter of contemporary music. She performs regularly with renowned ensembles such as the Ensemble Modern, The Israeli Contemporary Players and the ensemble recherche in Freiburg im Breisgau, and has also appeared recently with the Schönberg Ensemble in Amsterdam, the Ensemble intercontemporain in Paris and the EXPERIMENTALSTUDIO des SWR in Freiburg. She is the soloist of the Dutch ensemble Maarten Altena Ensemble with whom she regularly performs and tours Europe, Japan and the United States. Many of the ensemble’s commissions were especially composed for her voice.
Other recent performances include a role in Chaya Czernowin’s opera Pnimaat the Staatstheater Stuttgart, Zaide / Adama (Mozart / Czernowin) at the Salzburg Festival, Franco Donatoni’s Abyss at the Casa da Música in Oporto, a world premiere of Die Besessenen by Johannes Kalitzke at the Theater an der Wien, Mahler ’s Symphony No. 2 with the Israel Symphony Orchestra under Rishon Lezion, Mahler ’s Das Lied von der Erde with the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, a world premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s opera Sonntag aus LICHT with the Cologne Opera, Mozart’s Requiem in Rotterdam, and Luigi Nono’s Prometeo at the Salzburg Festival.
