Janiak Rafał
Composer and conductor. He graduated with distinction in composition studies under Stanisław Moryto (2010), as well as studies in conducting (also with distinction) in the class of Antoni Wit (2011) at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. In June 2011 Rafał Janiak conducted the graduates of Chopin University with Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. In the same year he prepared and conducted the stage premiere of Mozart’s Cosí fan tutte at the Gorzów Philharmonic. He works with a number of Polish orchestras, and since the 2011/2012 season has been Artistic Director of the Camerata Viva orchestra based in Warsaw. The works of Rafał Janiak include several dozen compositions for different casts – solo, chamber, symphonic, vocal-instrumental and electronic media. They have been per formed by such ensembles as the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Polish Radio Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of the Fryderyk Chopin Music University, of Lower Silesia Philharmonic, Sudety Philharmonic, as well as the Polish Chamber Choir and the Choir of the Podlasie Philharmonic and Opera.
He receives invitations to prestigious national and international music festivals, such as Musica Polonica Nova (Wrocław), the Organ Conservatorium of Legnica and “The stars Promote” (Jelenia Góra), Gaude Mater (Częstochowa), and the Laboratory of Contemporary Music (Białystok).
The many prizes awarded to him at music competitions include the 1st Prize at the John Paul II Composers’ Competition in Warsaw (2007), the 3rd Prize at the Musica Sacra International Composers’ Competition in Częstochowa (2008), and a distinction at the Tadeusz Baird National Competition for Young Composers in Warsaw (2010).
On two occasions he won the “Students’ Nobel Prize” (2009, 2010); he has also received scholarships of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2007), the Keimyung University Foundation (South Korea, 2009), and the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk (2005 and 2009).
He is currently assistant lecturer at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
