Długosz, Łukasz

He graduated as a soloist from the High School of Music and Theatre in Munich and from master’s courses at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris and Yale University in New Haven. He won a dozen international competitions, including in Paris, Odense, Munich, and Viggiano. He gives concerts as a soloist and chamber musician, as well as playing with famous orchestras. As a soloist he has performed notably at Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Berlin’s Konzerthaus, Munich’s Gasteig Carl-Or -Saal and Herkulessaal, Poly Theatre in Beijing, Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou, Shanghai Concert Hall, Opera House in Qatar, and Shin Kobe Oriental Hall. He has played under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Mariss Jansons, Jesús López Cobos, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Jacek Kaspszyk, Gabriel Chmura, and Agnieszka Duczmal. He has frequently been invited to perform Krzysztof Penderecki’s Flute Concerto under the composer’s own baton. He has recorded extensively for the radio, television and radio collections, as well as record labels (over 26 critically acclaimed albums, mostly of Polish music, which earned him numerous prestigious international awards, including the International Classical Music Award ICMA). 

Długosz’s concerts have frequently been broadcast by BBC Radio 3, NDR, SWR, BR4, Deutschland Radio Kultur, Polish Radio Channel Two, Radio France, and RMF Classic. He has premiered many Polish and foreign compositions, including by Paweł Mykietyn, Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, Piotr Moss, Paweł Łukaszewski, Jerzy Kornowicz, Maciej Błażewicz, Justyna Kowalska-Lasoń, Marcel Chyrzyński, and many others. So far, 72 works have been dedicated to him and to his wife Agata Kielar-Długosz. 

Łukasz Długosz also serves on the juries of national and international flute competitions, teaches masterclasses worldwide, and represents Poland at many international flute congresses. He represented the Polish Radio at EBU’s International Rostrum for Young Performers. 

His accolades include two nominations for the Passport Award of the Polityka weekly, Fryderyk Awards, and TVP Kultura’s Guarantee of Culture; Gasteig Musikpreis, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Award, Zeit-Preis, Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, and Młoda Polska. In 2018 he was nominated for the 2018 Fryderyk Award for his album featuring Paweł Mykietyn’s Flute Concerto, for the title of Person of the Year in Culture of Echo Dnia weekly, and the Coryphaeus of Polish Music award for Personality of the Year. He also received the Gloria Artis Medal of Merit to Culture for his cultural activity and for promotion of Polish culture.
