Duo Karolina Mikołajczyk & Iwo Jedynecki
Winners of first prizes and Grand Prix at international music competitions in France, Croatia, Austria, Italy, and Poland, they have appeared in recital in France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, China, Georgia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and the United States, and have given concerts at leading venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Guangzhou Opera House, and Star Performing Arts Centre in Singapore. In 2018 they toured China, performing in the leading concert halls.
In the Duo’s interpretations, many works acquire a new, original sound thanks to accordion transcriptions by Iwo Jedynecki. They select well-known chamber works and give them a new form. Their wide repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the present, with special attention dedicated to contemporary music and cooperations with leading Polish composers, including many works dedicated to the Duo.
In 2016 Karolina Mikołajczyk and Iwo Jedynecki premiered Marcin Błażewicz’s concerto for violin, accordion and symphony orchestra dedicated to them, in a performance featuring the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music Symphony Orchestra conducted by Wojciech Rodek. They also performed the piece at the Henryk Wieniawski Philhamonic Hall in Lublin in a performance conducted by Piotr Wajrak. The Duo has also collaborated with the Namysłowski Symphony Orchestra in Zamość and Warschauer Symphonie-Orchester conducted by Tadeusz Wicherek. In 2016 Requiem Records released their album Première, featuring works for violin and accordion written between 1952 and 2015, most of them premiere recordings.
Karolina Mikołajczyk plays a Duke London violin from 1776, Iwo Jedynecki a Pigini Sirius Millennium accordion. The purchase of the instruments was cofinanced by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
