Peintre, Lionel

The versatile French baritone Lionel Peintre is at ease in both opera and operetta repertoire, as well as on the concert stage. He sings in many French and foreign theatres such as the Opéra National de Paris, Théâtre National Capitole de Toulouse, Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, opera houses in Avignon and Montpellier, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Flemish Opera in Antwerp, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and Opéra National de Lyon, in collaboration with conductors such as Michel Plasson, Myung-Whun Chung, Serge Baudo, Jean-Yves Ossonce, Jacques Mercier, Bernhard Kontarsky, Pascal Rophé, Michel Tabachnik, and others. As an ensemble member of La Péniche Opéra in Paris for over ten years, he performed The Toréador by Adolphe Adam, Docteur Miracle by Bizet, Les Aventures du Roi Pausole by Honneger, and Vlan! dans l’oeil by Hervé. He sang in many world premieres: Avis de tempête by Georges Aperghis at the Opéra de Lille andPhilomela by James Dillon in Porto (2004); L’Autre côté by Bruno Mantovani at the Strasbourg Opéra du Rhin (2006); Massacre by Wolgang Mitterer for T&M (Atelier Théâtre et Musique in Paris) at the Cité de la Musique (2008); Les Boulingrin by Aperghis at the Parisian Opéra Comique (2010). He sang Doctor Bartolo in The Barber of Seville at the City Theatre in Bern and the Israeli National Opera House in Tel Aviv, as well as Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte staged by Yves Beaunesne in different French theatres. A new world premiere in 2011 brought him on the stage of the Opéra National de Paris Bastille with Akhmatova by Mantovani, as well as his role debut as Alberich in Ring-Saga inspired from Wagner’s Ring, a production of Paris T&M in Porto, Strasbourg, Caen, Luxembourg, Reggio Emilia, and at Paris’s Cité de la Musique. 

More recently he was heard in the eater an der Wien in Les Boulingrin by Aperghis, at Chorégies d’Orange in La Bohème, at the Rouen Opera and Royal Opera Versailles in Carmen. Later he created the role of Pinochet in Aliados by Sebastian Rivas in Paris, Strasbourg, Rome, Caen, and at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy. In 2014 he took part in the world premiere of Le Soldat inconnu by Georges Aperghis on tour in Paris, Vienna, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Cologne, Lisbon, Luxembourg, Porto, Hamburg, and Dortmund. The Avignon Opera invited him for O enbach’s Belle Hélène and La Bohème. In 2015 he made his debut as Golaud in Debussy’s Pelleas et Mélisande at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Last season, he performed in a new world premiere by Francesco Filidei,Giordano Bruno, in Porto, Strasbourg, Rome, Vilnius, Gennevilliers, and Milan. He was Pickering in My Fair Lady in Massy, Tourillon in Die Fledermaus and Baron de Gondremarck in O enbach’s La Vie parisienne at Opéra d’Avignon, Le Gros Industriel in La S.A.D.M.P. by Louis Beydts and 3rd Trio Member in Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti in Tours. is season, he will sing the part of Baron de Gondremarck in La Vie parisienne in Opera Saint-Étienne, Philippe Manoury’s Kein Licht at Opéra Comique, Ruhrtriennale and Berlin Festspiele, as well as Sébastien Gaxie’s Je suis un homme ridicule with 2E2M ensemble. Future appearances include Quinault in Adriana Lecouvreur at Opera Saint-Étienne, a new project by Aperghis with IRCAM (Paris), Giordano Bruno revivals, and others.
