Pasquet, Olivier
is a composer, music producer, and visual artist. His work is based on the writing of audio-visual compositions and synaesthesia. His generative pieces, both minimalistic and maximalist, are contextualised within a rationalist theory– fiction universe. is world can be explored both in individual works and as an overall artistic path. Its formal and visual qualities link it strongly to architecture, geometry, and algorithmic design. His compositions are therefore sound-based, visual and material. Olivier Pasquet first learned music composition on his own. After composition studies at the APU in Cambridge with Richard Hoadley, masterclasses with Trevor Wishart and Iannis Xenakis, he worked in several popular music studios and brie y at INAGRM. He then orientated his work toward contemporary stage music and media art. Mostly at IRCAM for fifteen years, he has collaborated with a wide array of other artists. He confronts his sound works with reality through performance art: dance, opera, music and contemporary theatre. His pieces also materialise themselves in the form of visual installations and purely electronic music. They are played, and sometimes danced, in concert halls, galleries or clubs.
Olivier Pasquet taught interactive arts and computer design at École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs from 2006 to 2009, as well as theatre music at Théâtre National de Strasbourg between 2007 and 2008. He received several prices and residencies, among others, a Villa Médicis hors-les-murs residency, two residencies at Tokyo Wonder Site, Arcadi, residencies in Chile and Taiwan. Between 2009 and 2012, he was a visiting researcher at Tokyo University with Philippe Codognet, at Keio and Buffalo with David Felder. He also works at Sony CSL and is a consultant for Ableton. Since 2013, he has conducted special research in music composition and non-standard architecture with Pierre-Alexandre Tremblay at Huddersfield University.
