Cegielska, Weronika
Dancer, choreographer, performance artist and musician. Her teachers have included Sonia Rafferty, Kira O’Reilly, Luke Pell, Freddie Opoku-Addaie, Simon Vincenzi, Martin Hargreaves, and the Seven Sisters Group. In 2013 her open-air choreography Alabaster Song (2012) and the project Stop Staring. It’s Not Polite (2013) were selected out of 1600 applications to be shown at Stockholm’s international art festival. She is constantly looking for an innovative, original and fresh movement language and new ways to express her ideas. Her interests in dance include site-specific performances, installations, dance film, interdisciplinary works, body and live art. As both a musician and a dancer, she is open to collaboration between various art forms and artists representing many disciplines. She is also interested in community dance as well as dance-and-movement psychotherapy (DMP), conceptual dance, and live art.
In 2014 she was invited to perform in Bojana Cvejić’s choreography produced and presented at London’s Tate Modern. In the same year she obtained an honours master’s degree in dance theatre and performance from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London (Dance Theatre: The Body in Performance). Her diploma work Song to My Intestines explores the topic of human hair as a strong symbol of identity and a pretext for a debate on intimacy and narration in the viewer – artist relation. The project has been presented at festivals in Great Britain, Spain, Poland, and Italy.
Apart from solo work, Weronika Cegielska also collaborates with musician Tomek Szczepaniak and foreign artists such as Claire Ridge on her doctoral work at Coventry University, a series of performances entitled In Your Honour. She has been invited to perform at the Venice International Performance Art Week 2017, and to take part in the Scenatet ensemble’s interdisciplinary project Travers at Copenhagen’s Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in 2018.
