Pałosz, Mikołaj

is an independent cellist, improviser and composer specialising in performances of contemporary and avant-garde music. He studied at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. He has won prizes at international music competitions, including the International Penderecki Chamber Music Competition in Cracow and Lutosławski Cello Competition in Warsaw. He has appeared at festivals such as Warsaw Autumn, Musica Polonica Nova, Festival of World Premieres, Poznań Music Spring, Audio Art, and Ad Libitum. He is a permanent member of the Warsaw Cellonet Group and the Chain Ensemble. As a member of the Netherlands-based cello ensemble Conjunto Ibérico in 1998–2008 he went on concert tours of Europe, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States. His solo recording Cellovator was released in 2008. Having received scholarships from the City of Warsaw and the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, he created a collection of etudes for cello, Pretudes (2012), as well as audiovisual compositions Dłubak Soundsystem (2012) and AVC (2016). For ten years he has been a member of a duo with violinist Anna Kwiatkowska, presenting contemporary and new repertoire. Mikołaj Pałosz has inspired new compositions and premiered many works, including those dedicated to him.
