Herzyk, Wojciech
Soloist and chamber musician. He studied in the percussion class of Stanisław Proksa at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. In 2007, at the invitation of Robert van Sice, he began postgraduate studies at the Peabody Institute – John Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he obtained a full scholarship and a Graduate Performance Diploma. He developed his abilities at the Yale School of Music in New Haven and Curtis Institute of
Music in Philadelphia, obtaining a Doctor of Arts degree in 2018 (specialisation: instrumental music) on the basis of a dissertation on the sound colour of percussion instruments in selected chamber works by Andrzej Krzanowski (under the supervision of Bernard Maseli).
He has premiered many works in Poland, the United States, China, Turkey, France, Portugal, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Estonia, and others. He has been a regular member of the Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej (New Music Orchestra) since 2009. He lectures at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.
Wojciech Herzyk has won prizes at major percussion competitions including Linz, Plovdiv, San Fermo, Warsaw, Wrocław, and Katowice, both as a soloist and chamber musician. He teaches numerous masterclasses and serves on the juries of nationwide and international competitions and auditions. He is the artistic supervisor of the Academic Percussion Group.
He has played with orchestras and ensembles such as the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Mobtown Modern, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, Katowice Percussion Group, the Atelier MusMA quartet (concert cycle) and the trio Stoyanov/ Jung/Herzyk. With clarinettist Jadwiga Czarkowska, he runs his own musical project R&B Modern.
Wojciech Herzyk is an artist–representative of Adams Musical Instruments, and plays on instruments from the Alpha and Freer Percussion series.
