Shemer, Daniela

Cellist, born in 1988 in Jerusalem, resident in Germany. After completing a BA degree at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, as well as military service, Daniela took a one-year study course in the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague, where she studied cello with Michel Strauss, as well as electronic music in the Sonology Department. She obtained an MA degree from the High School of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt.

Since 2009 Daniela Shemer has been a member of the West- Eastern Divan Orchestra. A passionate performer of chamber music, she is perfectly at home in contemporary repertoire. She has played in the International Ensemble Modern Academy, and in 2013 joined the Lucerne Festival Academy and Ensemble. She has performed on four continents under Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, and Steven Sloane. She has taken part in masterclasses conducted by eminent cellists such as Mischa Maisky, János Starker, Frans Helmerson, and David Geringas. She has repeatedly received scholarships from the American-Israel Cultural Foundation, Varon Foundation, and Barenboim-Said Andalusian Public Foundation.
