Rdja -
Milica Djordjević

Rdja, like many other of my compositions, plays with time, process, change, and physicality.

Rdja means rust: rust as a natural process of oxidation of metal and its substantial metamorphosis and therefore as an evidence of time passing; rust as colour, in all warm shades from orange, red to brown... in opposition to the cold, grey "initial colour" of metal; solid substance that becomes fragile, brittle... The piece deals with a fusion of gestures/motion as immanent, inseparable factors, incorporated in the physicality of my sound, endeavouring to unite the artistically extended paradigms in a powerful, highly dramatic and progressive form.

Slow but continuous intensification and expansion of tension and emotional charge in both musical and psychological sense, playing with the perception of time, stretching and compressing time, the creation of movement or stasis, multitimbral and multirhythmic synergies, "subdivided tempi" all result in an intense, "raw," charged music.
