SÉRIE ROSE

"After three emancipations in 20th-century music (serial, indeterministic, actional...)

I have found that there is still one more chain to loose... that is... PRE FREUDIAN HYPOCRISY / Why is sex a predominant theme in art and literature prohibited ONLY in music

How long can New Music afford to be sixty years behind the times and still claim to be a serious art The purge of sex under the excuse of being 'serious' exactly undermines the so-called 'seriousness' of music as a classical art, ranking with literature and painting.

Music history needs its D. H. Lawrence, its Sigmund Freud".

Nam June Paik, liner notes to the premiere of Opera sextronique (1967), which resulted in the arrest of the composer and cellist

Charlotte Moorman.

The erotic saturation of popular music and culture as well as licentious experiments in film, theatre, and visual arts have abolished all sexual taboos in the public domain in the 20th century. Compared with other arts, however, the new music scene has tackled sexuality with far less frequency, either from the political or private point of view.

Nonetheless, sound and music have always been related to sex (e.g. by Darwin). Nor is new music free from erotic contexts. Even if the average listener does not associate the odd hiss timbres of the avant-garde with sex (or do they ), composers do inject their imaginations, sensations, experiences, obsessions, and critical thinking about sex into their music. is concert sheds light on this aspect of new music, one that is usually in the shadow of its abstract intellectual form. It presents works directly relating to sex, love, pornography, and feminism. Let's listen to new music beyond its aesthetic and technical discourse, discovering what the avant-garde allegedly suppresses and represses.
