Moretti, Macio

(pen name of Maciej Moruś)

Born in 1975 in Środa Wielkopolska. Cofounder (with Paweł Szamburski and friends) of Lado ABC record label, currently boasting a catalogue of more than 80 titles ranging from energetic guitar music to baroque partitas. One of the first CDs he recorded with other musicians was Con Gas (2001) by Baaba, a band whose music blends the combined in uences of soul, disco, and metal. Moretti continues to play the percussion in this group. Until 2002, he also played bass guitar in the metal-grindcore band Antigama. Yer Country, the 2003 debut album of Mitch & Mitch, a band founded by Moretti and guitarist Bartek Magneto, is rooted in country music. Though this genre had never enjoyed much popularity in Poland, the album was warmly received and the band soon became widely recognisable. Moretti also performed on stage with the famous vocalist Zbigniew Wodecki, their joint concerts attracting record audiences.

Macio Moretti has played with a number of groups such as Shofar (with Raphael Rogiński and Mikołaj Trzaska), PartisTetris (with Candelaria Saenz Valiente and Marcin Masecki), and in the duo LXMP with Piotr Zabrodzki.

In 2010, he received two prestigious awards for his achievements: Przekrój's Fenomen and Polityka weekly's Paszport award (for popular music). Moretti is also highly regarded as a graphic designer. He won three Fryderyk Awards for his CD cover designs: Hey's Echosystem (2005) and Love! Attention! Help! Rescue! (2012), as well as Katarzyna Nosowska's album 8. He also designed covers for Anna Zaradny, Robert Piotrowicz, Ania Dąbrowska, Voo Voo, and many others.
