Radziejewska, Anna

Mezzo-soprano. She graduated with distinction from the class of Jerzy Artysz at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. She has won awards at many national and international singing competitions. Since 1999 she is a soloist of Warsaw Chamber Opera. She has also appeared at many other opera houses and concert halls in Europe and Japan, including the Bavarian State Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Theater an der Wien, Lucerne, Cologne Opera and WDR concert hall, Grand Théâtre de Provence in Aix-en-Provence, Flemish Opera, Opéra National du Rhin, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Teatro Zarzuela in Madrid, Theater Freiburg, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Cité de la Musique in Paris, and De Singel in Antwerp. She has performed at the Holland Festival, MaerzMusik in Berlin, Warsaw Autumn, festivals in Vienna, Salzburg, and Schwetzingen. She has worked with conductors such as Harry Bicket, Ivor Bolton, Attilio Cremonesi, Andreas Spering, Paolo Carignani, Emilio Pomàrico, Michel Tabachnik, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Friedemann Layer, Jean Tubéry, Sébastien Rouland, Johannes Debus, Tito Ceccherini, Beat Furrer, Daniel Grossman, Antoni Wit, Wojciech Michniewski, Jacek Kaspszyk, Marco Angius, Marek Moś, Ryszard Zimak, Lilianna Stawarz, Władysław Kłosiewicz, Zbigniew Graca, Ruben Silva, Kai Bumann, and Przemysław Fiugajski. She has appeared in stage productions directed by Trisha Brown, Robert Carsen, Rebecca Horn, Achim Freyer, Vincent Boussard, Ludger Engels, Andrea Schwalbach, Katharina Thoma, Ryszard Peryt, Maciej Prus, Jitka Stokalska, Marek Weiss, Natalia Kozłowska, Reinhild Hoffmann, Miron Hackenbeck, Joachim Schloemer, and Mariusz Treliński.

Anna Radziejewska’s wide concert repertoire includes Lieder and chamber music programmes, large scale vocal-instrumental works, as well as performances with early music ensembles (Collegium Musicum Köln, Concerto Vocale, Il Tempo, MACV, La Fenice, Royal Baroque Ensemble) and new music groups (Klangforum Wien, Algoritmo, Icarus). Since her debut as Lady Macbeth in Salvatore Sciarrino’s opera Macbeth in Lucerne, she has been recognised as a leading interpreter of Sciarrino’s music worldwide. She has sung, among others, the part of Izumi (specially composed for her) in Da gelo a gelo (Schwetzingen, Paris, Geneva), as well as Countess Malaspina in Luci mie traditrici (Salzburg Festival, Vienna, Madrid, Berlin). In 2010 she appeared in the world premiere of L’altro giardino in Rome. In 2011 she performed the part of La Donna (also written for her) in the world premiere of the opera Superflumina in Munich. Also in 2011 Sciarrino dedicated Cantiere del poema to her, first performed in Città di Castello, then at Warsaw Autumn (2012) and at Vienna’s Konzerthaus (2016). In October 2016 at the Venice Biennale, she will perform Sciarrino’s new chamber composition created for her.

Other composers who have written music for Anna Radziejewska include Wojtek Blecharz (his first opera Transcryptum, 2013) and Dariusz Przybylski (the part of Apollo in his Orphée, premiered in 2015 at Warsaw Chamber Opera).

Since 1999 Anna Radziejewska has engaged in teaching activity. She currently teaches solo singing at the Vocal and Acting Department of the Fryderyk Chopin Music University in Warsaw. She is also frequently invited to teach masterclasses. Since 2007 she has collaborated with DUX Records, which released her recordings of songs by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Karol Szymanowski and Oskar Kolberg, as well as songs and carols by Witold Lutosławski. Radziejewska’s recordings gained several nominations to Fryderyk awards.

The was awarded the Gloria Artis Bronze Medal and the Silver Cross of Merit.
