Janda, Artur

Bass-baritone and pianist. He graduated from the vocal class of Anna Radziejewska and piano class of Kazimierz Gierżod at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. He has won awards at vocal competition including the Franciszka Platówna Competition in Wrocław and the Reszke Competition in Częstochowa. He has received scholarships from the Polish Prime Minister, the Mayor of the City of Częstochowa, and the government of Lower Austria. As a soloist he has appeared at most Polish philharmonics. He regularly performs and records with the early music ensemble La Tempesta.

Since 2008 he has been a soloist of Warsaw Chamber Opera, singing the roles of Orbazzano in Rossini’s Tancredi, Alidoro in La cenerentola, Selim in Il Turco in Italia; Imeneo in Handel’s Imeneo; Figaro in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Masetto in Don Giovanni; Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore; The Marshal in Moniuszko’s Halka (Vilnius version); Azarias in Britten’s The Burning Fiery Furnace; Severus in Krauze’s Polyeuct; and The Professor in Dobrzyński’s Operetta. He has also appeared as Severus at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (2011). In May 2011 he made his debut in the Nationaltheater Mannheim as Un Passante and Un Poliziotto in Salvatore Sciarrino’s Superflumina. In collaboration with the Dramma per Musica Association, he appeared at Warsaw’s Stanisławowski Theatre as Pallante in Handel’s Agrippina and Zoroastro in Orlando.

Artur Janda’s repertoire also comprises parts in Bach’s Passions, Christmas Oratorio and Mass in B minor, Haydn’s Theresienmesse, Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation Mass, Fauré’s Requiem, Kurpiński, and Kilar’s Te Deum.

Artur Janda is the répétiteur and artistic director of the opera ensemble that provides performances as part of Warsaw Philharmonic’s educational programme. He was also a member of the proMODERN Contemporary Vocal Sextet (2012–15), which won two Fryderyk Awards.
