CHÓR WARSZAWSKIEGO TOWARZYSTWA SCENICZNEGO / WARSAW STAGE SOCIETY CHOIR
performs the music of all ages, from the baroque to modernity. It often appears in stage works, including in performances of The Bacchae (directed by Kamila Michalak), Die Fledermaus (directed by Andrzej Strzelecki), or a student version of Don Giovanni at the Youth Stage of the Warsaw Chamber Opera.
The Choir was founded in 1998 on the initiative of students of the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. Its first conductor was Ewa Strusińska, and collaborating artists have included Jerzy Maksymiuk, Łukasz Borowicz, Przemysław Zych, Jacek Boniecki, Andrzej Borzym, Harry Brasser, and Jerzy Wołosiuk, as well as Włodek Pawlik whose jazz Stabat Mater was included in the Choir’s repertoire.
The Warsaw Stage Society Choir has given many first performances of Polish modern composers, including Aleksander Kościów, Przemysław Zych, Weronika Ratusińska, Dariusz Przybylski, Kamil Staszowski, Magdalena Grabowska, and Rafał Janiak. It is also specialises in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach: cantatas, the St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion. Since 2009, the choir is directed by Lilianna Krych.
