Violin Concerto
The new revised version of my Violin Concerto for violin and orchestra, originally composed in 2006–8, follows its recent revision for chamber ensemble I wrote in 2013. This concert was my first ever orchestral piece, in which I faced the problem of writing for orchestra and at the same time, the relation between the soloist and the group. My response was, on the one hand, a work that tried to dialogue with the tradition of the genre and essence of the concerto and, on the other, one that often treated the orchestral group as a “super chamber ensemble.” This tension between soloist, chamber music, and orchestral music is the focal point of the Violin Concerto and the core of the interplay of crossed writings where the world built around the violin part takes on distinct colours.
