LUX:NM Contemporary Music Ensemble Berlin

was founded in 2010 on the initiative of Ruth Velten and Silke Lange in order to work on their own comprehensive chamber music programmes to be performed by a flexible cast. LUX:NM is a group of equal musicians: performers but also initiators of new music. Through intensive teamwork, new original projects are created in which electronics and stage ideas play a major role. The ensemble’s musicians are particularly committed to programming works by lesser-known composers.

As renowned award-winning musicians, LUX:NM instrumentalists regularly perform in leading concert halls and at new music festivals including Warsaw Autumn, World New Music Festival, Ultraschall, MaerzMusik, Infektion!, New Music Theatre Festival, Festival International Smash de Música Contemporánea, and Acht Brücken in Cologne.

Their own projects, in which the ensemble presents selected topics and various aspects of new music, include the international concert series in<>between (since 2011); AtemLos (a stage concert in cooperation with the Contemporary Opera in Berlin, 2013); Effervescent Powder, tracking the traces of popular music in new music (2011–12); the Im Fokus concert series (since 2013, a LUX:NM residency); Luxus Neue Musik (2015); (F)luxus (in cooperation with the State Opera in Berlin, 2015); Böse Büchse (2015); and the stage concert project Home Sweet Home (2015). Since 2013, LUX:NM is a resident ensemble at the concert series Im Fokus in Berlin. CD recordings of the ensembles have been published by Wergo, DUX, and since 2016 by Genuin.
