Stefański, Robert

Born in 1981 in Zgierz, Poland. He initially studied the clarinet with Adam Brzozowski, followed by Dariusz Dudek and Krzysztof Płoszyński at the music high school in Łódź and Ryszard Ryczel at the Music Academy in Łódź, graduating in 2005. He also followed a postgraduate course with Andrzej Janicki at the Karol Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice, as well as international summer courses and wind masterclasses notably in Duszniki-Zdrój and with leading musicians such as Mieczysław Stachura, Diethelm Kühn, Eduard Brunner, Oriol Romani, Matthias Müller, Florent Héau, Antonio Saiote, Valter Vitek, Mirosław Pokrzywiński, as well as Jan Jakub Bokun, Arkadiusz Adamski, and Aleksander Romański.

He has won numerous awards at Polish and international competitions, both as a soloist and chamber musician: 1st Prize at Young Musicians’ Competition in Szczecinek (1994), National Wind Rehearsals in Olsztyn (2000), French Music Competition in Łódź (1999), Aleksander Tansman Festival and Music Personality Competition in Łódź (2002 and 2008), Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition in Łódź (2007 and 2010), 1st Prize at Clarinet Festival in Piotrków Trybunalski (1995, 2001, 2003).

He has cooperated notably with the Polish Chamber Opera, New Art Radio Philharmonic, Camerata Mazovia, Radom Chamber Orchestra, and Łódź Philharmonic. He is a founding member of the clarinet Subito Quartet, and the Divers Trio. He has premiered a number of Polish modern composers’ works, and sits in the juries of several regional and national wind and chamber music competitions.

He has appeared repeatedly as a soloist with the Łódź Music Academy Big Band, directed by Jacek Delong. He has made several recordings for Łódź Radio and Polish Radio Channel 2. His recordings have been published by his home music academy, featuring the works of Poulenc, Brahms, Bronisław Kazimierz Przybylski, Tomasz Szczepanik, and Sławomir Zamuszko. In 2012 he obtained a PhD in arts. Currently he is senior lecturer at the Bacewicz Music Academy in Łódź and the 1st Degree State Music School in Zgierz.
