Born in 1979 in Crivitz (Mecklenburg), he studied sound engineering (among others with Jürg Jecklin) at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, obtaining a Master of Arts degree in music production in 2006. In 2007–08 he received a scholarship as sound director at the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) in Frankfurt am Main. During that time he worked intensively with numerous forms of contemporary music. He is active in both concert and studio environments such as the Munich Biennale, Beethovenfest Bonn, Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Wien Modern, and the Ruhrtriennale. He also works as a balance engineer working on numerous recordings for a variety of composers, in stereo and surround sound. He collaborates with the duo Soundspaces, consisting of bassoonist Johannes Schwarz and saxophonist Sascha Armbruster. Since 2008, Sebastian Schottke has worked as a freelance sound engineer for, among others, the Centre for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe.
