Percussionist dedicated to the study and dissemination of new music, he studied percussion with Francesco Repola, Jonathan Faralli, Eric Sammut (Conservatoire National de Paris), and Christian Dierstein (Hochschule für Musik in Basel), as well as chamber music with Marcus Weiss, Mike Svoboda (Basel Hochschule) and musicology at DAMS / University of Bologna.
He performs as a soloist for the Venice Biennale, Gaida in Vilnius, Huddersfield Festival, L’Arsenale di Treviso, L’Espace Sonore in Basel, Manca in Nice, Milano Musica, Acht Brücken Musik in Cologne, Ars Musica in Brussels, Zagreb Biennale, Harvard University, Lucerne Festival, MiTo, Nuova Consonanza, Parco della Musica di Roma, Salzburg, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Traiettorie, and Wien Modern. He has worked with leading modern composers such as Giorgio Battistelli, Emanuele Casale, Hugues Dufourt, Ivan Fedele, Luca Francesconi, Adriano Guarnieri, Helmut Lachenmann, Nicola Sani, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Giovanni Verrando, soloists Yuval Avital, Mario Caroli, IanniX, Matmos, Otolab, Andrea Rebaudengo, Alvise Vidolin, and ensembles such as Algoritmo, Barcelona 216, Diagonal, Icarus, L’Arsenale, Klangforum Wien, MDI, musikFabrik, Neuvocalsolisten, Prometeo, and Repertorio Zero.
He regularly appears with the main Italian opera and symphony orchestras such as Milan’s La Scala, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra Mozart, Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Venice’s La Fenice, Rome Opera, Filarmonica Toscanini, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, and Spira Mirabilis.
Alongside his career as a performer, he is active as a publisher of percussion music (in 2012, Ricordi published his reconstruction of Fausto Romitelli’s unpublished composition Golfi d’ombra), and lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel and Summer Courses of New Music in Darmstadt. He has recorded for Aeon, Neos, RAI Trade, Stradivarius, and his performances have been broadcast by RAI 3, Croatian Radio, and Austrian Radio. Sky Classica made a documentary about him in the series I Notevoli. Since 2009 he is artistic director of the Festival Percussione Temporanea in Reggio Emilia.
