Vassilieva Elena
Dramatic soprano specialised in modern music. In 2004 she performed György Kurtág’s The Sayings of Péter Bornemisza with pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, bringing this “risky“ work to Innsbruck, London, Ferrara, Badenweiler, Vienna’s Musikverein, and Paris’ Cité de la Musique. With the Sine Nomine Quartet she recorded a CD (published by Claves, 2003) of five works composed especially for her by Ivan Tcherepnin, Vladislav Shoot, Alexander Vustin, Alexander Raskatov, and Mieczysław Weinberg.
She is a founder member of That Ensemble, specialising in the performance of contemporary music by composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina whoseGalgenlieder were recorded under the baton of the composer for Cord’Aria (1998) as well as Kaufman, Deutsch, Globokar and Huber.
In June 2006 Elena Vassilieva sung the world premiere of Nunc dimittis, a new composition by Alexander Raskatov dedicated to the memory of Alfred Schnittke (with the Dresden Symphony Orchestra and Hilliard Ensemble conducted by Dennis Russell Davies, published by ECM in 2009).
Her discography includes many recordings of works by outstanding composers Ivo Malec, Edison Denisov, Alexander Knaifel, Hans Werner Henze, Luigi Dallapiccola, Olivier Messiaen, Alexander Vustin, Vladislav Shoot, Mieczysław Weinberg, Girolamo Arrigo, André Bon, Ivan Tcherepnin, Gian Carlo Menotti, Kryštof Mařatka, Philippe Leroux, and Alexander Raskatov.
