Blecharz Wojciech
Born in Gdynia, he graduated with distinction from the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. At present he is completing his PhD studies in composition at the Music Department at the University of California in San Diego, specialised in contemporary music composition and performance.
His compositions include solo works, chamber, orchestral, choral and electroacoustic music, as well as music for theatre plays and dance theatre. He has been working in the latter genre for a number of years, collaborating with Jacek Łumiński and the Silesian Dance Theatre in Bytom. He has also composed music for productions performed by ensembles such as Kokoro Dance (Vancouver), CityDance Ensemble (Washington), Coming Back To The Roots (Philadelphia), BalletMet (Columbus, Ohio), Theatre of Witness (Philadelphia), as well as Rotterdamse Dansacademie – a production authored by Anka Majcher with Teatr Powszechny in Warsaw and Teatr Wybrzeże in Gdańsk.
Blecharz was awarded the main prize at the Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers (2007). In 2005 he received a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for exceptional achievements in his studies; in 2006 he was awarded a scholarship by Académie Musicale de Villecroze (France), in 2007 and 2010 he received the creative arts scholarship of ZAIKS, in 2008 the creative arts scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and in 2008 and 2011 the scholarship of the Cultural Centre in Gdynia. In 2007 he participated in the Stockhausen Courses in Kürten near Cologne, and in 2012 in the Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt.
