Schiavo Leonardo
Born in 1983, composer, flutist and musicologist, he graduated in musicology with first class distinction at the University of Padua. In 2004 he performed at the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall in the presence of Pope John Paul II. He has taken part in masterclasses conducted by Peter Maxwell Davies, Stefano Gervasoni and others. His composition Sub divo was awarded the 3rd Prize at the International Composition Contest Opera Prima in 2005, and his Kantika was performed during the World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana in 2006. In 2007 he was chosen by Giorgio Battistelli to take part in the Biennale composition masterclass in Venice, which resulted in lessons with the musicians of Klangforum Wien. In 2010 his work Le sette parole di Gesù in croce for mixed choir won the composer prize “In Passione Domini”, and was performed in the Turin Cathedral in front of the Turin Shroud. In 2011 he was awarded the second prize in the Giovanni Colombo Flores D’Arcais competition for hisà la magnolia for string quartet, and the 1st Prize in Premio Nazionale delle Arti for his composition Madrigale lirico. In 2012 his A poco a poco won the 1st Prize at the International Composers’ Competition “Strumenti di Pace”. His compositions have been per formed in Europe and the US, and are published by Pizzicato Verlag Helvetia, Edizioni Armelin, Edizioni Feniarco and Arspublica.
